Create a new question in an assessment

To create a question in your assessment, follow these steps:

  1. Access the assessment where you want to add questions.
  2. Click on the pink “Add a Question” button located below your introductory content. A panel will open on the right side of your screen.
  3. Write your question in the designated field.
  4. Add the correct and incorrect answers.

If your question has multiple correct answers, select the “Multiple” option from the dropdown menu above the question field.

Configure the question

Below the incorrect answers, find several options to configure your question.

In an assessment, settings follow a strict hierarchy to determine how they apply. They cover three main elements: question format, randomization order, and time allocated for responses.

Hierarchy of Settings:

  • Individual question settings: Highest priority. If a setting (format, order, time) is defined for a question, it overrides sub-part and global settings.
  • Sub-section settings: Intermediate priority. Settings defined at the sub-part level override global settings but can be modified at the question level.
  • Global settings: Default settings. These apply to the entire assessment unless specific sub-sections or questions have different settings.

Set the timing

Define the time allocated for participants to answer the question. Uncheck this option if you do not wish to set a time limit.

Add media illustrations

Upload or drag and drop an image to illustrate or clarify your question. The media will appear just below the question.

Customize question types

For each question, choose the type of pedagogical activity under which the question is presented to participants:

  • Open-ended question
  • Multiple Choice
  • Swipe cards
  • Mystery cards
  • Words Master
  • Word Search puzzle
  • Hidden answer

Set grading mode for open-ended questions

If you select the “Open-ended Question” activity, adjust the permissiveness level for responses:

  • Broad: Accepts synonyms and minor typos. Teach Up will perform semantic analysis and consider approximate or synonymous responses as correct.
  • Standard: Accepts minor typos. Responses that are close to the correct answer (and its configured alternatives) will be accepted.
  • Strict: Requires exact wording. Only answers identical to the correct answer (and its alternatives) will be accepted, ignoring capitalization and punctuation.

Create and configure a group of questions

A question group allows you to create random selection within this group of questions, enabling different assessments for each participant.

Create a new question group

To group multiple questions within a sub-part, follow these steps:

  1. Access the assessment where you want to create a group of questions.
  2. Click on “Add a Group.” A group is a sub-part that structures your questions.
  3. Add questions to this group using the same process as creating a question.

Or, group/separate your questions using the move handle tool.

Set the number of questions to ask in the group

To set the number of questions asked in a group, follow these steps:

  1. Access the “Number of Questions to Ask” tab within the question group.
  2. Select the desired number of questions. This number represents the quantity of questions drawn randomly from the group during the assessment.

Add text or media beforehand

If you want to add text or media before the questions, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the “Add Text or Media” button.
  2. Select the type of content you want to add (text, image, video, etc.).
  3. Add your content, which will appear before the questions in the assessment.

Delete a question in an assessment

To delete a question, follow these steps:

  1. Open the relevant question.
  2. Click on “Delete this input” (trash icon) to remove the question from the assessment.

Move a question in an assessment

To move a question within an assessment, follow these steps:

  1. Access the assessment outline.
  2. Click and hold the question you want to move.
  3. Drag the question to the desired location within the outline.

To move multiple questions at once, follow these steps:

  1. Select a sub-part containing multiple questions.
  2. Move the entire sub-part, and all associated questions will move together.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to inform participants of the number of correct answers in a “Multiple” type question?

No, Teach Up does not allow this indication to be given automatically. However, it is recommended to add a manual note in the question prompt, such as “Multiple correct answers possible,” to help participants understand that they should select several correct options.

Can feedback be provided immediately after each question?

Currently, Teach Up does not offer immediate feedback after each question. Assessments are designed to measure participants' overall knowledge, which is why feedback is provided only at the end of the assessment. However, you can configure the display of correct answers at the end of the assessment via the end-screen settings, allowing participants to review their answers and receive global feedback.

💡 Tip: You can work around this limitation by creating an additional section at the end of the assessment. Include a downloadable document with detailed explanations on corrections. This allows participants to access more in-depth information once the assessment is complete.

Can questions be created with AI assistance in an assessment?

No, Teach Up does not currently support AI-generated questions. All questions must be created manually.

How is the score calculated for a “Multiple” question with several correct answers?

The score for a multiple-choice question with several correct answers is calculated as follows:

Score =

Thus, each correct answer selected increases the score, while each incorrect answer selected decreases it.
