Setting Up Single Sign-On (SSO) for your organization on Teach Up

We will support you in implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) in Teach Up to simplify and secure access to the platform for your teams.

Team members involved in setting up SSO

On the Teach Up Side

  • Project Coordination: Your main point of contact from the Customer Experience team
  • Technical Implementation: Our SSO technical expert at Teach Up

On Your Side

  • Project Coordination: A member of your team who uses Teach Up as a course designer and participant
  • Technical Implementation: A member of your IT team responsible for SSO configurations (to be determined)

Steps for setting up SSO

Step 1: Set Up URL redirection

We will begin by creating a redirection with a custom domain name for your organization.

Action Required: Please choose the URL you wish to use for your SSO access (e.g., https://www.clientname.teachup.com/login) to replace the standard URL https://www.app.teachup.com/login.

Step 2: Exchange information for configuration

We will then collect the necessary technical information to configure SSO accurately.

Actions Required from You:

  • Provide the contact information for the IT team member responsible for SSO configuration on your end.
  • Confirm the SSO protocol you would like to use: Open ID (preferred) or SAML V2.
  • Validate the desired redirection URL.

Step 3: Complete technical configurations

Once we receive the information, we will configure SSO on our side and work asynchronously with your IT team to ensure the parameters are also set on your end.

Step 4: Finalize setup in a video call

After configurations are completed, we will arrange a validation meeting to test the SSO connection, ensuring everything works as expected.

Participants:

  • You and your designated IT contact
  • Our technical expert and your Customer Success Manager (CSM)

Information Needed to Begin

To facilitate steps 1 and 2, please provide the following to your CSM as soon as possible:

  • IT contact responsible for SSO configuration on your end
  • Preferred SSO protocol (Open ID or SAML V2)
  • Custom domain name for redirection (e.g., https://www.clientname.teachup.com)

Finally, regarding login options, please choose between:

  • SSO only: Access restricted to users integrated through your SSO ([Client Name] users only).
  • SSO + login/password: Allows access for external users without a [Client Name] email address.

We are here to answer any questions and support you through each step of the setup process.

Frequently Asked Questions

What data is retrieved via SSO?

Teach Up collects the first name, last name, and email address of course designers and participants through SSO.

  • This information is updated each time the user logs in via SSO.
  • A user account is automatically created on Teach Up the first time the user logs in through SSO.

Are existing accounts merged when SSO is implemented?

Yes, existing accounts are merged based on the user’s email address.

Does SSO manage user deletion? (e.g., if a user leaves the client company and is removed from their SSO, are they deleted in Teach Up?)

If a user is removed from the client’s SSO, they will no longer be able to access Teach Up via SSO (access denied).

  • However, the user account will not be automatically suspended in Teach Up; this action must be carried out manually by an administrator.

Does SSO eliminate the need for an administrator to create participant accounts on Teach Up (in case of course assignment)?

No, if the client wants to use course assignment, participants must first be created in Teach Up, either manually or by importing an Excel file.

  • However, if courses are shared via an HTML5 link, the login experience is smoother for users (no need for account validation or password creation).
