The knowledge question from the participant's perspective
The question appears as text (with an image if configured), while the answers are displayed as a learning activity (for instance, the "Mystery Answer" activity).
After the participant selects an answer, they immediately see the result and, if incorrect, the correct answer. A detailed explanation then follows to strengthen understanding of the correct answer.
💡 Key points:
- Knowledge questions are linked to specific content.
- They are presented as learning activities.
- If Adaptive Learning is activated, the number of questions, order, and activity types vary. For more information, refer to the dedicated article.
Generate a knowledge question with AI
This feature is available for users with the “Generative AI ” option. Contact our support team to activate it.
There are two options for creating knowledge questions with AI: one-click generation or manual AI-assisted generation, which lets you guide the question yourself.
Create a knowledge question with the one-click generation
Teach Up lets you generate a knowledge question in one click with generative AI, which automatically creates a question with answers and explanations suited to your course.
To generate a question in one click, follow these steps:
- Go to the course design page.
- Click the "+" button to add a knowledge question.
- On the right side, a purple box will prompt you to generate a question with AI.
- Click “One-click generation”.
The AI will generate:- a question
- a correct answer
- two incorrect answers
- an additional explanation
Create a question manually with AI assistance
If you want more customization while using AI suggestions, you can choose to create the question manually with AI assistance.
To do this:
- Select “Validate knowledge”.
- Click “Create”.
- Specify the topic the question will address and click “Generate”.
- The AI will generate:
- question content
- possible answers

Personalized coaching supported by AI
Once the question is created, Teach Up's AI can automatically correct participants' answers and generate personalized explanations. See the article for details on configuring this feature.
Configure advanced options
Teach Up provides advanced options for further customizing your questions:
-
Adding media: Insert images or audio files to illustrate your questions. These media items appear beneath the question for participants. Multiple media files will display as a carousel that participants can navigate by swiping.
-
Selecting learning activity types: Choose the types of learning activities that best suit your educational needs. Refer to the article for more information on learning activity types.
-
Hyper-memorization: Enable this option to boost memorization. Questions will reappear in a review phase if not well mastered.
For further information on hyper-memorization, refer to the dedicated article.
Configure open-ended question correction
When the "Open-ended Question" activity is selected and AI coaching is enabled, you can define the question’s correction mode based on your needs:
-
Advanced: Verifies concept understanding. Teach Up's AI will analyze the meaning and intent of the participant's answer compared to the expected answer. If they align, the answer is accepted, even if phrased differently. Encouraging free expression promotes better understanding and retention of key concepts.
-
Standard: Verifies keyword knowledge. Teach Up's AI will check that the keywords (or alternatives) from the expected answer are present in the participant's response. Spelling mistakes, typos, and synonyms are tolerated as long as the meaning is preserved.
-
Strict: Verifies exact term mastery. Only perfectly accurate responses matching the expected answer (and configured alternatives) are accepted, excluding capitalization and punctuation.
Create a knowledge question without AI
Add a knowledge question
To create a knowledge question without AI, follow these steps:
- Go to the desired location in the course to add a question.
- Hover over the line between the white and gray backgrounds until the "Test knowledge" button appears.
- Click the button to add a new question.
Configure the knowledge question type
Teach Up provides two types of knowledge questions:
- Single-answer question: The participant must select one correct answer from multiple choices.
- Multiple-answer question: Multiple correct answers must be selected to validate the question. You can configure the number of correct answers required.
Set incorrect answers
For each question, you should add multiple incorrect answers. We recommend including at least two incorrect answers per question to make the exercise more challenging.
Configure question explanations
Explanations help reinforce learning after answering a question. Here’s how to configure them:
- Course reminder: Add the course related to the question as an explanation.
- Advanced explanation: Provide a more detailed explanation, with additional files if needed.
- Force explanation display: Enable this option to display the explanation even if the answer is correct.
Configure advanced options
Advanced options let you:

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a knowledge question be duplicated within a course?
Currently, it is not possible to duplicate a question within a course.
When are questions presented to participants?
With Adaptive Learning, questions may appear in three different configurations:
- Immediately after the participant views the related content
- In a reinforcement phase between course sections if more practice is needed
- Not at all if the participant does not need them, such as when they are already proficient.
Why aren’t all answer choices for a knowledge question shown to participants during the course?
Adaptive Learning tailors questions to the participant. If difficulties are detected (incorrect answers to one or more questions), the choice of answers for future questions may be restricted.
